Thermoactinomyces candidus Ab

This test measures antibodies against Thermoactinomyces candidus, a heat-loving bacterium found in moldy hay, compost, and grain. Exposure to this organism can trigger hypersensitivity pneumonitis (also called extrinsic allergic alveolitis), an inflammatory lung condition. Positive antibodies indicate past or ongoing exposure and potential immune sensitization. This test is typically ordered for people with unexplained cough, shortness of breath, or fever, especially those with occupational exposure to hay or grain. It helps distinguish occupational lung disease from other respiratory conditions.
